Here’s the Ellis Exclusive Villas guide to getting the most out of your Orlando vacation when you stay with us in May.

The Theme Parks

Orlando’s theme parks typically get busier and busier throughout by May, reaching a peak over the Memorial Day weekend.

This federal holiday marks the start of Summer in the USA and the parks will be very busy, usually at peak capacity, on this weekend.  For the information of our non-US visitors, Memorial Day falls on the last Monday of May, in 2016 this is May 30 and in 2017 it will be May 29.

In terms of special events, the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival will still be drawing in the crowds at Disney World; it closes on May 30.  Even if you’re not a gardener, this wonderful show is worth exploring if you are in Orlando in May.  Elsewhere, you can enjoy live music at the Viva la Musica concerts at SeaWorld.

With the weather warming up in May, it is worth adding a day at one of Orlando’s water parks to your schedule this month.

You can book Orlando theme park tickets through Ellis Exclusive Villas.  We guarantee you won’t get a better price.

The Weather

By May, temperatures in Orlando can be pushing into the 90s.  Expect daytime lows of around 65˚F (18˚C) and highs in the low 90s (32˚C +).

It isn’t going to be all sunshine though; the risk of rain is around 30% so make sure you have an umbrella or lightweight raincoat packed in your day pack along with your sun screen.

Sea temperatures are on the rise too; you can expect them to be around a comfortable 79˚F (26˚C) so if your itinerary allows time for a beach day all the better.  Your only decision: which Ocean to swim in – do you fancy a Gulf Coast beach or an Atlantic shore?

Wider Central Florida

As you will hear me say on many an occasion, the Central Florida region has so many great things to do and May is no exception.

The local state parks are a must-see: get out and experience the unique nature of this waterway-rich state.  Or, closer to home, the Shingle Creek Regional Park in Kissimmee is worth a visit.  You can hire a kayak and explore the creek, as one of our guests did earlier this year.

Many of the State parks also offer options for hiring bikes or kayaks so you can explore the trails and waterways at your own pace.  Alternatively, an Airboat Tour is another thrilling way to experience the State’s unique natural environment.

May is the season of Blueberries and Watermelons, so it is another great month to try a pick-your-own-fruit experience or visit a local fruit festival.

Given the unique natural environment of this wonderful state, I always recommend allowing for at least a day exploring the great outdoors and getting up close with nature Florida-style.

There’s a wealth of other activities to explore in Orlando, whether you fancy a night out at the theatre, some live music or a day shopping you will find something that takes your fancy in and around the city.

It can be daunting to plan an itinerary, especially if it is your first trip to Florida, so please know that we are very happy to offer help and advice if you need it.

Plus, of course, we offer a “won’t be beaten on price” guarantee on any tickets you purchase through us, thanks to our partnership with local ticket agency Kissimmee Guest services.  For tickets or advice call the Ellis Exclusive Villas team on:

Your vacation home

By May the weather is warm and I don’t recommend that guests book pool heat if you are staying with us anytime between May and October.

However, the warm weather brings the bugs out, so you’ll need to pay particular attention to disposing of trash (rubbish) properly, wiping down surfaces, and using bug spray when you’re out and about (especially at the water parks).  You shouldn’t be unduly troubled by bugs however, so if you find you are please give me a call and we can arrange for the vacation home to have another visit from our pest control team.

All of our homes are treated on a regular basis (they are sprayed once a month) so it is unlikely that you will be unduly troubled.  However, please know we are here if you need us!

We still have some availability for May 2016 so call us for a quote if you fancy a last-minute break; we should be able to offer you a great rate.

If it is your first time in Orlando as a family then I can’t speak highly enough of our car rental partner, Car on the Drive.  Instead of you having to drive straight after a long flight, Car on the Drive will pick you up from the airport and deliver you to your vacation home where your hire car will be waiting for you.

Finally, if you have any questions then please contact us on the usual numbers.  And, most of all, enjoy your vacation!
